Lesson Type: Video Lessons

We’re going to learn about a college student, Febin Bellamy, who has launched a new project called “Unsung Heroes” that strives to bring down the walls that separate students from those who help us and impact our lives at school on a daily basis. Let’s see how “Unsung Heroes” is helping to create a true sense of solidarity and friendship among students and those who work within our school.

Over the summer the Olympic Games were held in Rio de Janeiro and we were able to watch athletes from around the world achieve spectacular goals for themselves and for their countries. Today we will hear two stories from the 2016 Olympics: the story of US Gold medalist Claressa Shields, and the story of the first ever Refugee Olympic Team—highlighting virtues of perseverance, discipline and caring.

This lesson premiers stories from around the world that show both the power of words and of art – their power to inspire us, to create solidarity, and as a way to express our care for others. Through these stories, we will also learn how the virtues are universal in their impact on ourselves and on others, across place, time and cultures.

As a young man Eddie Bocanegra joined a gang and chose a life of vengeance and violence, and in doing so inflicted great pain and suffering on himself and on others. Eddie’s story is one of regret, but also a search for forgiveness and healing, in part by helping others turn away from a life of violence, and towards a life of solidarity and hope for a better future.

Listen to the story of Will Avila, a man who for many years allowed his environment to negatively define him but then decided to change. Through perseverance, wisdom, and generosity, he is building a better life for himself and for others.

In this lesson we’re going to focus on football stars who in their personal lives are displaying an exceptional degree of wisdom, solidarity and love in helping others, in addition to being exceptional athletes—highlighting Denver Broncos safety, David Bruton, and Carolina Panthers tight end, Greg Olsen.

Today we’re going to learn about someone who through being honest about herself and what she has been called to do has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of others, and in the process has found a life of joy.

Danielle’s story is an amazing one of someone who has faced many challenges from a difficult family situation to losing her arm in war. We learn how the choices she made and the virtues she lives out have enabled her to not just get through these challenges but also to flourish and ultimately be honored at the ESPY Awards.

A 24-year old with a syndrome so rare that only three people in the world have it. We learn about her choice to be happy and extraordinary courage, fortitude, and perseverance.
